White Water Rafting in Western North Carolina

njoy an adventurous day of North Carolina Whitewater Rafting on the Nantahala River, and stay with us at our Smoky Mountain bed and breakfast

Whitewater rafting in NC on the Nantahala River usually begins in the spring of the year and continues through the end of October. Guests from all over the World come to North Carolina to paddle the rapids and take in the beautiful mountain scenery of the Nantahala River Gorge.

The Nantahala Gorge whitewater rafting trip is eight miles long and usually lasts about 4 hours.  Exciting class II rapids can be found along most of the river, with a thrilling class III whitewater river rapid at the end of the run.

Whitewater Rafting Rules and Helpful Hints

All riders must weigh at least 60lbs.  This is a Federal Government rule and is strictly enforced.

Flotation devices are provided, and a safety class is presented before each trip. Some outfitters offer wet suits or paddling jackets during the cooler months.

Remove loose jewelry, and secure your glasses.

You should probably wear a bathing suit, shorts, and a t-shirt.  Avoid wearing cotton clothing to prevent that "cold and clammy" feel on the river.

Wear secure shoes. Flip-flops that aren't secured on your feet are not allowed.  This is because they usually fall off and are difficult to retrieve. And since fish don't have feet, they really have no use for abandoned flip-flops!

Bring a towel and dry clothes to change into at the end of the trip.

Relax and have fun on your North Carolina Whitewater Rafting trip down the Nantahala River!
